Final Call: The Kickstarter Ends Oct. 21
Everything you need to know about the Kickstarter and what comes next
Greetings! đ
This is a quick update all about An Authorâs Guide to Setting Design so if youâre interested in that reference book, read on! If not, you can move along (I appreciate you either way đ)
An Authorâs Guide to Setting Design Leaves Kickstarter on Oct. 21st*
đ October 21, 2025 is the last full day of the Kickstarter (*it will actually close Oct. 22, around 11:00am EDT / UTC-4, if you want to be specific). So, there are only a few more days to back it!
đ What is this book? In case youâre brand-new here, An Authorâs Guide to Setting Design is a non-fiction reference book which covers science, history, and practical cartography all for the purpose of improving our worldbuilding and maps for fictional stories. If youâre an author or game master who does a lot of worldbuilding and drawing maps, this bookâs for you. There are over 120 maps and diagrams inside, and commentary from dozens of other authors & illustrators including Brandon Sandersonâs map illustrator. More info is available on the Kickstarter page linked below.
đźď¸ Why back the Kickstarter? There is a small discount on all orders made through the Kickstarter! Plus, the more we can fund the project now, the more I can add additional art to the book. We just reached our third stretch goal! And, if youâre interested in my other books, there are add-ons for copies of them as well if you reserve the hardcover of An Authorâs Guide to Setting Design. You can even add on a custom map commission if youâd like to work with me on one of your maps!
đ International shipping is available for physical rewards on the Kickstarter.
đď¸ If you miss the Kickstarter, you will still be able to get the book later as a digital or print copy. Pre-orders should be available in early 2026, probably in late winter or early summer (northern hemisphere).
Please be aware that there is no late backing option on Kickstarter.
Signed Copies & Sprayed Edges (U.S. Only)
The Kickstarter does not offer signed copiesâit just complicates things and adds some pretty significant costs / delays with the extra shipping.
đşđ¸ However, if you are in the U.S. and want a signed copy of An Authorâs Guide to Setting Design, Iâm pleased to announce that The Crafty Bookstore is also offering signed copies of that as well! You can pre-order through their store right now, theyâre even offering the same 10% discount as you can get on Kickstarter. That discount also ends when the Kickstarter campaign closes.
đď¸ As an added bonus, when you get a copy from The Crafty Bookstore you can add golden sprayed edges to the book!
Pre-orders from The Crafty Bookstore placed during the Kickstarter will contribute toward the campaignâs stretch goalsâso you donât need to worry abut missing out on anything by ordering through them.
Thatâs it for now! Iâll be back around mid-November with a regular update. Until then, thanks for reading, and for all of your support on An Authorâs Guide to Setting Design! Iâm so excited to share this book with you all next year.đ
